Established in 2002, the Russian Educational Center of Minnesota (RECM) is a non-profit (501(c)(3)) organization and is open to anyone wishing to learn Russian language, culture and traditions. Small classes, a personal approach to each student, experienced teachers, a warm family atmosphere – all of this is a small part of what awaits you and your children.
The school day consists of three lessons, during which children learn the Russian language, develop skills of oral speech and get acquainted with Russian literature and culture. The program consists of 11 levels. We accept children from the age of 4. Young children begin to get acquainted with letters through crafts, poems, fairy tales, songs and games. The program for the older children actively prepares them for the Advanced Placement Russian Language (AP Russian) exam in the Russian language. Successfully passing this exam allows the children to receive study credits taken into account in colleges and universities. With each class, music classes are also conducted, during which the children sing all of the familiar and beloved songs from childhood.
Our school life is not limited only to the academic program, but also includes many additional activities. At the center there is a children's theater studio, which produces two colorful performances a year. These performances are enjoyed not only by all the children of our school, but also by their parents, grandmothers, grandfathers and friends. In addition to the theater studio, we have a chess club that began several years ago, an art studio, a cooking club and a homework club for interested students. Several times a year the school organizes children's concerts. The most popular concerts are our New Year’s concert and the Feast of the Summer. Also, there are periodic trips to museums and other interesting locations, watching movies in Russian and themed evenings (making crafts, etc.). In the near future we plan to add a few more extra circular activities. We have also offered a summer camp program for the past 3 years. A warm family atmosphere, interesting trips, various entertainments await children every summer. In this manner, we immerse the children in the Russian-language culture, where they not only speak Russian, but also comprehensively absorb the nuances of this culture.
Our school year begins in September.
Classes are held on Saturdays from 10:15 am to 12:45 pm.
Elective classes are offered before and after the main classes.
The theater studio starts its work after classes and a short break for lunch.
